Welcome to Jaeschke Math!
Message from Sharon: Over the past 35 years in education, I have taught everything from middle school math to Calculus 2. Along the way, I created engaging activities and this website contains my best ideas along with needed materials. My goal is to help teachers deliver effective lessons that are fun to teach!
I am a lifelong learner. After reading helpful books, I take notes to help me remember the contents. Click here for notes from my favorites!

Math 9: We created this class to allow mixed ability grouping of incoming freshmen at SVHS. Classes are team taught by the high school mathematics faculty. Students are encouraged to learn about their interests and what motivates them. At the end of the six week course, students are recommended for placement in either Basic Math, Introduction to Algebra, Algebra or Geometry for the remainder of their freshman year. Click here to learn more about this class.
Algebra I: This course can get really dull if you are not careful. Since it is usually required, students don't always do what is best for them (like show their work!) My ideas to help this course range from card sorts to rubrics to work paper to games. Everything is designed to make the learning less painful and more engaging! Click here to find out more.
Trigonometry: In this class I created floor activities to explore standard position triangles, radians, the unit circle, angular velocity, and trigonometric graphs. We make cardboard triangles that students use for help with special triangles. I use coloring book pages to help them memorize the trig identities and an ice cream party to reward them for passing quizzes. The students also enjoy charting their biorhythms and decorating their vector Christmas tree. Click here for videos of my lessons, worksheets, and materials.
Statistics: It is vital that students learn how to gather data using unbiased methods, how to organize and display data so it is not misleading, and to then analyze and test the data for accurate conclusions and reliable predictions. My Statistics students use authentic data in every unit. Examples include analyzing their own test scores, conducting sampling to study our whole grade sharing agreement and testing the effectiveness of our cell phone policy. If I were starting my teaching career now I would...
...get lesson ideas and materials from the "Math Medic" websites. Three teachers (Lindsey Gallas, Luke Wilcox, and Sarah Stecher) created lessons and hold workshops to help teachers use the EFFL model, which stands for "Experience First, Formalize Later."
