At Southeast Valley HS, this class has two parts. During the winter trimester, it is called Calculus A and students who successfully complete the course receive high school credit . Those students may then take ICCC Math 210 during the spring trimester. Students who complete ICCC Math 210 receive both high school credit and four college credits from Iowa Central Community College. Iowa Central does require students to earn a score of 76 on the Aleks Placement test previous to enrolling in the course.
Students wanting to take this class must have successfully completed Pre-calculus, Trigonometry, Algebra 2A/B, Advanced GeometryA/B, and Algebra 1A/B. Therefore, it is usually composed of seniors. It is recommended that students seriously consider the time that will be required to work on the material and whether they are committed to succeeding, since the grade received in ICCC Math 210 (Calculus I) will contribute to their college grade point. Students should consider their college program requirements and the activities they will be participating in when they decide whether to enroll.
